Waikato Badminton Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Awards Function
Waikato Badminton Association is holding its AGM & Awards Function on Saturday 3rd December starting 6.00 pm at the Hamilton Garden’s Café, Hungerford Cres, Hamilton Gardens. Platter food is included, while drinks can be purchased from the bar. We encourage a representative from every affiliated club to be present at this function, as we will share key information/plans with all. Invitations to this function have been emailed to all Clubs.
A reminder also that nominations for Awards can be submitted online 2022 WBA Awards by 11th November 2022. This is for the qualifying period of 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022. It would be great to give all deserving people in our badminton community some recognition in what’s been a challenging year for everyone. Candidates must be affiliated WBA members, and can be nominated for one or more categories online. All Award categories and criteria can be found on below – it is important that all nominations are accompanied by supporting information. All nominations will be considered by a range of Waikato Badminton Coaches, Staff, and Board Members.

1. Administrator of the Year
- Open to all levels of administrators and board members of affiliated clubs with the exception of paid staff;
- Demonstrates administrative excellence (governance and management through systems, processes and communication);
- Demonstrates leadership and is well respected by the badminton community.
2. Club or Team of the Year
- Open to all affiliated club teams, school teams, representative teams;
- Has consistently achieved excellent results over the year and/or an extraordinary performance;
- Shown growth in membership and/or won competition(s) they competed in;
- Promotes and develops the sport in partnership with Waikato Badminton.
3. Coach of the Year
- Open to all coaches in Waikato regardless of the level or age group they are coaching (school, club, representative);
- Displays qualities of leadership, dedication and commitment;
- Shows outstanding ability to get the best out of player(s) who achieve results well above expectation;
- Highly respected by player(s) and the badminton community for their technical knowledge and delivery;
- Provides wholistic development for player(s) and contributes significantly to developing better people.
4. Technical Official of the Year
- Open to all accredited technical officials in Waikato regardless of the level they are serving (local, regional, national, international);
- Displays a consistently high standard of refereeing, umpiring or line judging;
- Demonstrated outstanding commitment and enthusiasm;
- Highly respected for the role(s) they play.
5. Volunteer of the Year
- Open to affiliated members who are not paid for the work they do in badminton (including but not limited to administration, coaching, officiating, team management, parent help, etc)
- Demonstrated a high level of time, commitment, enthusiasm;
- Is well respected for the role(s) they play;
- Has made a considerable contribution and difference to the sport at school, club, regional or national level.
6. Junior Recognition Trophy
- Open to all junior players (Under 19 yrs) at representative (Inter-Association) level;
- Always shown significant effort and 100% commitment to improve playing ability and results during the season;
- Well presented, cooperative, responsible, fair and respectful on and off the court.
7. Junior Player of the Year
- Open to junior players (Under 19 yrs);
- Consistently achieved the most outstanding results and/or extraordinary performances during the season;
- An ambassador of the Waikato Badminton Association and for Badminton (well presented and respectful on and off the court);
- Demonstrated commitment to Waikato Badminton by making themselves available for the Association where possible.
8. Senior Recognition Trophy (donated by Darryl & Sue Baty)
- Open to all senior players (Over 19 yrs) at representative (Inter-Association) level;
- Always shown significant effort and 100% commitment to improve playing ability and results during the season (at open and closed events);
- Well presented, cooperative, responsible, fair and respectful on and off the court.
9. Senior Player of the Year (Ralph Fear Cup)
- Open to senior players (Over 19 yrs);
- Consistently achieved the most outstanding results and/or extraordinary performances during the season;
- An ambassador of the Waikato Badminton Association and for Badminton (well presented and respectful on and off the court);
- Demonstrated commitment to Waikato Badminton by making themselves available for the Association where possible.
10. Masters Recognition Trophy (donated by the Icke family)
- Open to all Masters / Vets / Super Vets player (35 yrs & over) at representative (Inter-Association) level;
- Shown significant effort and commitment to improve playing ability and results during the season (at open and closed events);
- Well presented, cooperative, responsible, fair and respectful on and off the court.
11. Masters Player of the Year
- Open to Masters / Vets / Super Vets players (35 yrs & over);
- Consistently achieved outstanding results and/or extraordinary performances during the season;
- An ambassador of the Waikato Badminton Association and for Badminton (well presented and respectful on and off the court);
- Demonstrated commitment to Waikato Badminton by making themselves available for the Association where possible.
12. Club Service Award
As a general rule the member who is nominated for a Club Service Award should have been of service to the game of Badminton at club level for a number of years (eg. 7-10 years as a committee member, a lesser time will be considered if the member has held a position of responsibility). The nomination for a Service Award is based on recommendation of club committees.
13. Long Service Award
As a general rule the member who is nominated for a Long Service Award should have already received a Club Service Award at least 2 years prior and have also been of service to the game of Badminton at WBA (regional) level for a number of years (eg. 5-7 years in a position of responsibility). The nomination for a Long Service Award is based on recommendation of the WBA Board.
